I love a good challenge. Last October I participated in a "Write 31 Days" challenge, but that wasn't painful enough so I added a 31 day running challenge on top of it. I might have been a couple posts short of 31 with the writing challenge, but I nailed the running challenge! It's been a couple months though and it's a fresh new year, so I think it's time for another challenge.
I did a poor job climbing this morning. I know now that I simply can't go two weeks without climbing and expect to maintain fitness. These are still baby muscles - arms, shoulders, and even fingers unused to the load of all my mass against gravity. It's not fair to my body to go so long without climbing.
My best friend's little baby is growing so fast! Little Stella is sitting and almost crawling already and I was so happy to play with her and my friend and Stella's big brother who is a bundle of energy! It was so fun taking photos of this active family and I can't wait to see how this little beauty grows!
Wait, January 2017 goals?! It's already 2017?! And didn't I just post a goals post?! Oh, hello, New Year's Resolutions. But while long-term resolutions are great and everything, I still need those short-term goals. After all, nothing long-term is achievable if you don't break it down to smaller, more approachable chunks.
So. 2017. What should we do with you? In 2016 my goal was to take risks. I didn't achieve all my resolutions (who does?!) but I feel like I was true to my theme of 2016. I look back at how I did against my 2016 resolutions, set a new theme for 2017, and set new resolutions.
Two years ago I was prepping to head overseas to celebrate Christmas in Italy with my then-boyfriend (now fiance!) and his dad. And while it was awfully cold and everything was closed for half our trip because of one holiday or another, it was a fantastic way to celebrate the holidays. Along the way I discovered a handmade journal that is just gorgeous. I pulled it out recently to use and it's a great reminder of the holidays I spent in Italy.
What's in a word? Or rather, what's in a silence? Long, hard work at a day job, and long, physical work in Johnston County forced my silence for the past week. I've never been one to plan blog posts more than a couple days in advance, so with a sudden onslaught of extra responsibilities and the sudden lack of time (an hour commute each way and extra work killed all my blogging and running time) meant radio silence. On Saturday though, stuck in Johnston County, I took the chance to explore somewhere new for a little stroll.
I posted yesterday about The Displaced Period Project and 5K and 1 mile "Ugly Sweater Fun Run" to raise money for menstrual supplies for area shelters. (No seriously, check out their GoFundMe page here! https://www.gofundme.com/displaced-periods) The write-up yesterday included just a fraction of the photos from the event - check out the full photo gallery!
