Nora+Jordan Wedding, The Rickhouse, Durham, NC

You know what's great? Weddings. You know who had a particularly great wedding reception? Nora and Jordan!

On a mild January evening Nora and Jordan and their closest family and friends assembled in Durham for a great party at The Rickhouse. There were grilled cheese sandwiches from American Meltdown, soups in bowls handmade by a friend of the bride and groom, and delicious Bean Trader's pies (mmm!).

It was a great crowd and I had a blast meeting folks and photographing what turned out to be a fantastic celebration of two wonderful people. Congratulations, Nora and Jordan!

If the Shoe Doesn't Fit

A couple weeks ago at a new (to me) yoga class, the instructor was helping me with a pose when she glanced down at my feet and actually gasped with horror.

"Is that from running? It looks like a running injury," she asked me as nicely as possible after a quick recovery of her composure.

The Idea of the Century

What do you think of when you hear the phrase "national park"? Maybe sweeping vistas of canyons, volcanoes, geysers and glaciers? Maybe mountains - bare and rocky or green and hazy - that rise and fall in reams and rows and out of sight? Maybe wildlife like bison or wolves or thick-horned, hardy ungulates? Maybe your favorite public playground, or a distant, inaccessible place? The national parks are indeed this, and so much more.

You Try Running In It

It's not too often you get snow in central North Carolina. Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill will sometimes see a sprinkling of ice, but it's still enough of a novelty to warrant panic-stricken surges to Harris Teeter. We North Carolinians suffer through the indignities of winter weather - sleet and freezing rain and lack of infrastructure and jeers from our northern neighbors - but the reality is the conditions really aren't ideal. Half an inch of solid ice and a dusting of snow? No, really. You try running in it.

Carli Lloyd: Best in the World

Carli Lloyd is officially the best in the world. The soccer star was recently appointed the US Women's National Team captain (along with defender Becky Sauerbrunn) and, more importantly, was named the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year. But perhaps what is most remarkable about Lloyd's achievement is the fact that she almost didn't become the best player in the world.
