What's in a mile? 5280 feet. 1609 meters. 1760 yards. 946 footsteps (give or take).
But what really goes into a mile? The sense of accomplishment after that first milestone or the joy of the new personal record, a mile is many things to many people

This weekend was a big deal in distance running events. And no, I'm not talking about the Olympics - the Rio Olympics and Paralympics are long over and done. Right now I'm talking about Kona and Chicago - read more about these big races on today's post!
The sky was deceptively blue, as though the storm the day before had never happened. The sun cheerily glowed gold through the tulip poplars during my morning run and afterwards, despite the surely muddy conditions, I grabbed my camera and headed to Lake Crabtree to explore the trails.
Gale force winds, rain, giant puddles, rain, water-soaked clothes, rain: there's nothing quite like running in a hurricane.

Ughhhh I had to run. It was only day five and I had to get out there and run, even though I was still sore from what was basically two days of intervals in a row (soccer game on Monday and then fartleks with the running group on Tuesday). But it was only day five and I had to run. Besides, Ryder had been acting crazy and I knew he wanted to get out of the house. I'd come home from work to find my travel-sized stick of Body Glide shredded by the front door. Whoever says dogs are dumb is a liar: Ryder knows I haven't been home as much because I've been running...
So if you don't actually need anything for running, what should you have? Today I've outlined 9 essentials for running, plus 5 items that are a good idea to bring along!
It's day 4 of my running and writing streak and both are going strong, so I figure I'll keep covering the basics of running. Maybe you're now sold on the "why" of running and you understand what running is, so you might ask, "But what do I need in order to run?"
